About me
I graduated with a degree in Microbiology from Trinity College Dublin followed by a post-graduate diploma in Statistics and a PhD in Molecular Microbiology. I subsequently worked for 4 years as a post-doctoral researcher with the Animal Genomics Group, AgResearch Molecular Biology Unit, Department of Biochemistry, University of Otago, New Zealand with a further post-doctoral position at the Smurfit Institute of Genetics, TCD. In 2009 I joined the Teagasc Animal & Bioscience Department in Grange, Dunsany, Co. Meath as a Senior Researchers where my research interests lie in the area of Infection Biology. I have led and collaborated on many projects in the areas of bovine and ovine infection disease including intramammary infections, gastrointestinal nematode infections and enzootic abortion of ewes. Specific interests include molecular mechanisms of Staphylococcus aureus virulence in the mammary gland and strain-specific virulence, innate and adaptive resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes and antimicrobial and anthelmintic resistance among pathogens of farm animals. I also have a keen interest in knowledge transfer to the agricultural industry. .
