About me
I graduated in 2001 from University College Dublin (UCD) and worked for 15 months in mixed, mainly large animal practice in Dundrum, Co. Tipperary. Following this, I worked as intern in Large Animal Clinical Studies in UCD for 12 months, followed by a 3 year term as Large Animal Clinical Scholar in the University Veterinary Hospital. I returned to large animal practice in 2007, working for Mulcair Veterinary Clinic in Tipperary and Limerick. In September 2010, I was appointed Resident in Bovine Health Management in UCD. I was appointed as Temporary Lecturer in Integrated Farm Animal Health in February 2012 and completed a Masters in Veterinary Medicine (MVM) degree through research into leptospirosis in Irish beef/suckler herds in June 2012. The specialist residency training programme culminated in examinations in July 2013, following which I was successfully awarded with the Diploma of the European College of Bovine Health Management. In February 2016, I was appointed permanent Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Farm Animal Clinical Studies in UCD.
I have a keen interest in farm animal surgery, internal medicine and herd health. As a European specialist in bovine health management, I work with the UCD Herd Health Team to provide a consultancy and referral service to veterinarians throughout the Republic of Ireland, as well as providing an on-farm herd health management service to farms affiliated to UCD. I provide undergraduate teaching in the veterinary medicine degree course in UCD, from first years to final years, as well as contributing to the teaching of veterinary nurses. I am a lecturer in the highly regarded Certificate in Dairy Herd Health postgraduate course for farm animal vets and I am a frequent speaker as national conferences and veterinary clinical society meetings throughout the country.
