WELCOME TO THE MastiSTAPH PROJECT WEBSITE

The MastiSTAPH project involves an interdisciplinary approach for the study of mastitis and genetic variability of bovine-adapted Staphylococcus aureus, and aims to deliver output results in three different lines of dairy science (Genomics, Epidemiology and Dairy processing) in order to improve sustainability of Irish dairy farms. The project has received funding from the Irish Research Council and the European Commission Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme through the CAROLINE cofund scheme, under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 713279.

We propose a deeper study of bacterial genetic variability

Three marked objectives will aim to establish the influence of Staphylococcus aureus on milk production and processing, and to improve knowledge that will lead to tailored therapeutic protocols to control mastitis.

OBJECTIVE #1

To determine the genetic diversity of Staphylococcus aureus in Irish dairy herds.

OBJECTIVE #2

To use epidemiological data to assess the impact of strain variation at a herd level on the success of mastitis controls.

OBJECTIVE #3

To establish the influence of different Staphylococcus aureus strains on milk processing capacities.
