About me
I have held my current post in the Veterinary Pathobiology Section since joining UCD in July 1997, initially as Lecturer in Veterinary Microbiology, with promotion to Senior Lecturer/Assoc. Prof in 2002. I completed a PhD in veterinary microbiology in 1991 and since joining UCD in 1997 have built on my expertise in microbiology, including diagnostic veterinary bacteriology. Extensive research in veterinary bacteriology and a number of interesting cases submitted to the laboratory over the years prompted more detailed investigations and I have substantial expertise in a number of topics, notably in the areas of staphylococcal infection, MRSA, MRSP, corynebacteria, Salmonella serotypes and multidrug resistant organisms. I have been awarded substantial funding for many collaborative research projects. These have allowed me to develop specific skills and detailed knowledge in subjects such as salmonellosis in pigs and antimicrobial resistance in domestic animals.
